Emerging writer Emma Rogerson has been long listed for the Out-spoken Prize for Poetry in the category of film, with her work Plastic by Nature, which makes up a key part of the ArtsTrain creative project examining gentrification.

We were very excited to find out that emerging writer Emma Rogerson has been long listed for the Out-spoken Prize for Poetry in the category of film, with her work Plastic by Nature, which makes up a key part of the ArtsTrain creative project examining gentrification.

Exploring the relationship between gentrification and millennial identity, Plastic by Nature was written by Emma, who also co-directed the film, in which her work is performed by Anusha Abbas, co-directed and edited by James Baldwin, with cinematography by Kieran Martin and Thomas Read, music by Joanna Ward and sound recording by Charlie Taylor.

The Out-spoken Prize for Poetry awards take place on Tuesday 2nd April - find out more information here.

The short film was commissioned by ArtsTrain as part of our ongoing project around Gentrification. Now into its third year, the project features young artists who have created a new collaborative body of work responding to the title’s theme.

With a creative brief set by MOBO Award winning artist Soweto Kinch and the programme lead by legendary singer songwriter Eska and composer and producer James Yarde, ArtsTrain’s Gentrification project takes a philosophical and artistic look at the very topical issue of gentrification within the UK.

See Emma’s film above and the other pieces of work our artists presented in our online gallery, and watch a short clip with of ArtsTrain’s mentors discussing the artists' myriad responses to gentrification at the Royal Festival Hall as part of EFG London Jazz Festival.
