Earlier this year our creative music programme was shortlisted for the ‘Best Arts Initiative’ in The National Campaign for the Arts awards 2020.

Whilst we unfortunately just missed out on the award, we were very proud to have made it through to the shortlisted groups, out of hundreds of nominations from across the UK.

The feedback we have received from their panel of top arts industry experts has been fantastic - have a read below at what some familiar faces said about our work…

As a musician and understanding how creating music has lasting impact on health and confidence ArtsTrain’s work and proven impact has left me impressed and moved.
— Gary Kemp, singer, song writer, musician
ArtsTrain was the first initiative I looked at I had to award 5 out of 5 for every category. Everything that I believe about the extraordinary ability to transform young people’s lives through the Arts is perfectly reflected in the figures, the testimonials, the work. That such important and far reaching work is being done in such an under-resourced area, and with young people often written off by society, is inspiring and hopeful and has truly excited me.
— Julie Hesmondhalgh, actress
I love this project. It balances intelligent musical responses with unusual projects, thorough assessment and most importantly, creative joy. It’s opening people’s eyes to the power of music in an area where those opportunities can be hard to come by. Top stuff.
— Samuel West, actor, director, Chair of the National Campaign for the Arts
The happiness and hope this project creates shine out from the stories of those it’s helped. In harnessing the astonishing power of music to heal and to entertain, it is literally changing lives.
— Susie Dent: lexicographer, etymologist, host of Countdown’s ‘Dictionary Corner’

It has been a fantastic and rigorous process to have ArtsTrain’s work recognised on a national stage and to receive such inspiring feedback from some of the industry’s top experts.

We would like to say a big thank you to The National Campaign for the Arts for shortlisting us in this year’s Hearts For The Arts Awards. The awards are delivered by UK Theatre, in partnership with Culture Counts; the Local Government Association; Thrive; Theatre NI.
